Stefanie grew up in Duncan, BC with German immigrant parents and her two sisters.
She has a BFA with honours from the University of Victoria and received a MFA with a full Commonwealth scholarship from the University of Auckland, NZ.
Stefanie is interested in spatial arrangements, the exchange between the object and environment and ensuing relationships. Her broad subject matter ranging from media stills to childhood memories, reflects deeper dynamics at work.
“I am intrigued with how inner processes come to light through relationships. I often include found material for my surface which, due to its otherness, has an unpredictable relationship with the image. This brings another layer of meaning and exemplifies the contradictory nature of experiences.”
Stefanie has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally. She has won numerous awards including Canada Council grants.
She lives with her family on Salt Spring Island BC.
Her work can be seen at, Starfish Gallery on Salt Spring Island, Winchester Galleries in Victoria and in her studio.
