biography

'I am intrigued with how inner proccesses come to light through relationships. I often include found materials in my surfaces to bring my surroundings to the image. Its' otherness works unpredictably and gives meaning to the contradictory nature of experiences.'

 

Stefanie Denz has been drawing since she was three years old. She has since attended the University of Victoria for an honours degree in painting and received an MFA from the University of Auckland on full scholarship.

In her work Stefanie plays with spatial arrangements and dynamism in the narrative. She is interested in the psychological structures around relationships and has a wide range of subject matter.

Stefanie has exhibited in Open space gallery, the Nanaimo Art gallery, North Vancouver gallery and has shown in solo and group shows in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Europe. She has won several awards including two Canada council grants and her work is in international private collections.

Stefanie lives with her family on Saltspring Island. She teaches drawing and painting and her work can be seen at Salt Spring Woodworks, Winchester Galleries, Victoria and in her studio.
